Today we held the first of our double header of cup finals in the Markets Field Limerick. Thanks to our hosts the LEDP,  to the officials and to all who helped, you made this a very enjoyable day for all.

First up was our Division 2 Cup Final which kicked off at 1 pm which saw Shannon Town take the field v Moyross Ladies in what proved to be a very entertaining affair. What started as a very closely contested game turned in favour of Moyross after Shannon Town lost a player due to a sending off early in the first half but to their credit Shannon battled hard and went in at half time still in the game with the score 1 – 0 in favour of Moyross. However as the second half got underway Moyross made the numerical advantage pay and pushed on to secure a comfortable victory running out 6 – 0 winners. Congratulations to Moyross and all their supporters who turned out in force to support them today which led to a great atmosphere.

The cup was presented to Moyross by Lorraine Counihan, Chairperson of the Mid West Regional Football Committee.

Second up was our Open Cup Final which saw Regional United take the field v Lifford Ladies. This too proved to be a very entertaining game which saw Lifford take an early lead but a resilient Regional fought hard and were awarded with a penalty kick after some great attacking play which put Lifford on the back foot. Both teams went in at the break with the game in the balance at 1-1.The second half saw Lifford score an early goal to take the lead again but Regional never gave up and kept battling but Lifford were able to knock in another score which dented the Regional ladies resolve and as a result Lifford ran out winners on a final score line of 5 – 1. Credit to both teams for providing a very entertaining game and both will meet again in our Division Cup 1 Final on September the 15th.
