LWSSL League Start Confirmed.
Once again, the Ladies lead the way as local soccer league action returns to the Mid-West with the opening round of Fixtures of the Limerick Women’s and Schoolgirls Soccer league scheduled to commence.
League action resumes on Tuesday 21st July with Division 1 and 2 of the Adult Ladies League taking to the field. This marks a welcome return to competitive football in the region.
6 Teams will contest the Div. 1 Title race with Lifford from Ennis in County Clare seeking to defend their title against some serious competition this year. Aisling Annacotty and Regional United under new management (Des Fitzgerald) this season have very formidable squad who have progressed from their underage structures and are eager to impress. Listowel from the Kingdom will bring a mixture of youth and experience to the table while Moyross United, last years Div. 2 champions have a wealth of experience and talent at their disposal.
Newcomers to the League, Nenagh Town will emulate their male club counterparts and bring a well-coached skilful team to the table and are definite league contenders. But it is the long standing kingpins of local ladies soccer, Lifford Ladies that will start as favourites and will not relinquish their crown without a fight.
Div.2 has 6 teams vying for the title this year. It is difficult to pick a favourite in this, traditionally the most competitive of divisions. Shannon Town have a strong player pool and will certainly believe they can go one better that last year and annex the title. Herbertstown, under the tutelage of Mike Timmons, have consistently improved and will certainly be in the frame. Cappamore the Div. 2B Champions of 2019 will look to continue their upward trajectory and will fancy their chances in the title race. Murroe, last years Junior Cup champions, also have realistic title credentials and welcome Tony Breen back on to the coaching panel for 2020. Bridge Celtic have a tried and tested team and with an excellent defence and a proven goal scorer in Liz O Connell are a definite threat. Ballylanders, one of the stalwarts of the game in the Mid-West, will bring their usual skilful play to the fore and on their day are a match for anyone in the league. One thing is guaranteed in this Division is that it will go to the wire.
So, a welcome return to on field action and we would like to wish all players and management the very best of luck for the season ahead.
Please observe all return to play rules and lets keep everyone safe and enjoy the season.
